Hello and welcome to WIP it up Wednesday, the blog hop where we share excerpts from all sorts of works in progress. Today we’re sharing an excerpt from Sunstrokes, the summer anthology written by Susannah Shannon, Amelia Smarts, Jane Henry, and Maisy Archer.
Here, we have an excerpt from Heidi and Dom’s camping trip. Things have gone a bit off kilter and Dom knows just how to set things to rights again.
Her eyes widened. “So… You’re going back to being a hard ass?”
He smirked. “I’m going back to being your dominant. Because the way we are together isn’t something we can just start and stop. It’s deeper than that. And we’re both happier when we stick to our roles… and the rules.”
She nodded ruefully.
“You know it’s true,” he told her smugly. “You told me just yesterday that you wanted my dominance even before you knew what it was. And now… you’re going to get it.”
He led her over to the tent, then grabbed one of their camp stools and set it inside.
“I don’t suppose I could convince you that I already get it?” she whispered.
“No,” he told her, his voice serious, the teasing light gone from his eyes now. “You can’t.”
He held open the tent flap and waited for her to crawl inside before following her, then he sat on the stool and pulled her across his lap to face him.
“You endangered yourself today,” he reminded her. “You argued with me repeatedly.”
“Yes, sir,” she agreed. And as she spoke the words, he saw something move across her face and her eyes filled with tears.
“Tell me,” he said.
“I… I’ve just gotten so used to saying those words, I hadn’t realized how much they center me,” she told him in an awed whisper. “And I don’t know if I’ve said them to you even once today. I need this, Dom. I mean, I already knew I loved it. I knew I’d never want our relationship to be any other way. But I don’t think I realized how much I need it… until now.”
He leaned forward and kissed her gently.
“Well, that’s a lesson worth learning, baby,” he whispered.
Then he eased back. “Turn over, Heidi,” he told her sternly.
When she had settled herself over his knee, he pulled down her thin cotton sweatpants and panties, baring the smooth curve of her ass.
“Count,” he told her, running his palm across her butt and thighs. “Stay with me.”
