#WIP it up Wednesday – The Knave

It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for the #WIP it up bloghop, where we get to take a peek at what everyone’s been working on!

This week, I’m sharing a snippet from my current WIP,  a historical about a stern, sexy, dominant pirate known as the Knave, and Evelyn, the fair maiden he’s kidnapped!

Fiesty, headstrong Evelyn has gotten herself into trouble, and it’s up to the Knave to show her that such misbehavior won’t be tolerated on his ship.

“I gave you the opportunity to admit the truth, but you would not.  I told you to stay in my quarters, but you did not… I’d be within my rights to have you flogged. Or worse.”

I could feel my eyes grow wide. Punishment on a ship was not the civilized sort of thing it might be on land. A man wouldn’t be confined to his bunk, or docked his wages, no. At best, he might find himself flogged. At worst, keel-hauled – dragged under the keel of the ship until he was water-logged and near death. What could the Knave have in mind for me?

He laughed shortly and released me, turning to lean against the ship’s rail as the sails unfurled and The Cutlass prepared to catch the wind. “Rest your mind, Miss Hollywell. I shan’t apply the cat o’nine to your lovely back, nor whip you over the gunwale. But I will punish you…”

“So, what are you going to do to me?” I asked, defiant.

His head cocked to one side and he regarded me steadily, though anger still kindled behind his eyes. “You insist on acting like a spoiled, headstrong child. So I shall punish you like one. With my hand, over my knee.” He held up one enormous, callused palm in demonstration.

My eyes widened and I swallowed, suddenly focused once again on the tightly corded muscles of his arms where they crossed over his chest. He meant to spank me?

He nodded as though he’d read my conclusion in my eyes. And then the wretch added, “And I intend to let my men watch.”

Can I just tell you how much I love this hero? Sighhhh…
